Eulogies Flow for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
More than two weeks subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community continue to honor the pair.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he only now felt ready to share openly about his profound loss.
"Adequate time has passed that I can finally express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, noting that his first meeting with Reiner left him smitten. "When we commenced passing more hours together I understood this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the movie, adding that he could not remember "any day without laughter".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Things that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, noting: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I think of you." He ended with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Fellow Artist
In a distinct essay, revered director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the protagonist.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he comprehended the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese noted.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to bar the release of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the LAPD.
A legal directive issued a security hold on the files to prohibit the public release of "all case details, notes, reports or photos" associated with the active case.
The coroner's office had already determined their deaths were the consequence of foul play, with a official listing citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the deaths, public figures offered varying comments.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, making divisive claims that were broadly criticized by numerous commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his voice to the those speaking out recently. Talking on his program, Rogan characterized the statements as "disturbing" and remarked they revealed a troubling absence of compassion.
Rogan finished by suggesting that an adviser should have acted when the impulse to speak on the tragedy was made.
