Pizza Market Saturation? Domino's Leader Exits After Shift Towards Fried Chicken.

The chief executive of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who proposed the United Kingdom might have reached maximum pizza demand while diversifying the company into poultry items has been removed after conflicts with its board.

Executive Shake-Up

The former CEO is leaving after a brief tenure in charge, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Frampton, while the pizza giant seeks a long-term chief.

The outgoing executive, who was with Domino's for over 20 years, had attempted to pivot Britain's leading pizza takeaway chain towards fried chicken, stating earlier this month there was not “significant expansion” left in the UK's pizza market. He observed chicken was the most rapidly expanding menu item in the globe.

Governance Friction

Sources suggest that there was friction between the CEO and the board over his focus and direction, although Domino's announcement said he was leaving “through mutual consent”.

New Brand Introduction

In the autumn, Domino's unveiled its poultry brand – which Rennie called a “significant new phase” for the organization – and is trialling it in 210 outlets in the north-west of England and the province.

While the company is still intending to launch it across its extensive network in the coming year as planned, it considers fried chicken as an addition to its primary pizza operations.

Board Statement

Ian Bull, the Domino's chair, commented: “We are confident that there are a range of possibilities to drive further growth and profitability in Domino's core business. We are concentrating on finding the right chief executive to lead the disciplined execution of that growth strategy.”

Industry Challenges

Earlier this month, the pizza delivery giant, which has a substantial customer base in the British Isles, said transactions declined by 1.5 percent in the Q3. In August, it cautioned that the takeaway market had “intensified” as it blamed weaker consumer confidence in the lead-up to the budget and rising wage costs for disappointing revenue and a 15 percent decline in six-month income.

Other pizza operators are also facing challenges. Another major chain announced the closure of dozens of outlets a recently, after the firm behind its UK venues fell into administration.

Health Efforts

Trying to keep up with customer preferences towards balanced diets, the company has introduced lower-calorie items, such as its light base line of pizzas below 400 kcal as well as vegan and gluten-free options. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has 2,171 kcal, while a small has 909 kcal.

Acting Management

The interim chief has been with Domino's since the recent past, and was formerly with the gambling company William Hill. It is thought that she does not want to take on the top job long-term.

She commented: “Our team has a multiple active development and operational projects that we will be focused on carrying out at pace.”

She added these involved additional efforts on the organization's procurement system and new item creation, and its rewards program.

The pizza chain is also lacking a permanent finance director until the spring, when a new appointee comes aboard from the drinks company C&C Group. For now, Snow serves as temporary CFO.
