The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
